UNUSUAL 1939 VINTAGE GIFT BOX SHAPED LIKE A HAT, FRENCH? EUROPEAN? MILITARY?

This wonderful piece is a very unique European (possibly French due to the writing inside) trinket/gift box
Material covers a thick cardboard box that is shaped like a pith hat or sun helmet
We are unable to identify the cap badge but it does look similar to the one used by the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, an infantry regiment of the British Army though less ornate
Measures about 6.5" long x about 3.5 tall
Inscribed "A mon petit Jacks" [translated means "To my little Jacks"] December 5, 1939
