    Description

This is a 1922, or earlier, Girl Scout uniform.
Consisting of a jacket and skirt, the jacket with epaulettes, two patch pockets, a "GS" patch on each collar end, a metal bar with a star, and a daisy patch.
There are also Girl Scout buttons at each wrist, all buttons appear to be present and accounted for.
The jacket has a label from Shuman, Boston, MA, which was located at Shuman corner.
The Shuman Company sold out to Jordan Marsh in 1922, so I am dating this to before that year, or not much later.
The skirt has two patch pockets with metal Girl Scout buttons, closes with 3 hooks and eyes at the waist, the rest fastening with snaps. There is a wide, webbed belt inside at the waist of the skirt.
The jacket is 43" around at the bust, 46" at the waist, giving it a slight A-line silhouette. The skirt is 27 1/2" around at the waist, it's 32" long.
Both pieces had wide hems, which were taken down after I purchased the outfit.
There are some "needle holes" where the threads were after the alterations were removed, some of the loose threads are still present.
This usually disappears when the garment is washed.
The fabric is crisp, but there are three tears in the jacket: The longest is 5", at the right shoulder. There is a "T" shaped tear also on the jacket, near the bottom front hem, the 3rd is 1/2".
The skirt has one, 1 1/4" tear. I have shown these areas in the photos.
There is a smattering of blackish spots at the back of the skirt, also illustrated above.
I gently steamed the outfit, so the fold lines and some of the threads used to alter the hems remain, as explained above.
The color is consistent, any shading variations are in the photos only. No collar or underarm problems.
    1920-ish.
